Managing changes at Waikiki Joy Hotel

The Waikiki Joy Hotel, known for its Bose stereo systems and Jacuzzi tubs in each room, is continuing to make improvements. "We will renovate the lobby, adding new furniture and new awnings," said Hamilton Toledo, the hotel's new general manager. "Hopefully, we will be finished by January."

Toledo is from Sao Paulo, Brazil, where his family owns an electronics company. He came to the United States 15 years ago and worked in electronics before spending 10 years in the hotel business. He worked for the Portman Hotel (now the Pan Pacific Hotel) in San Francisco.

He most recently was rooms division manager at Aston's Maui Kaanapali Villas. The Waikiki Joy is popular with long-time Hawaii residents Toledo said.

Toledo earned a bachelor's degree in international business at San Jose State College in California.
