Heidrich goes on medal tear

Ruth Heidrich, of Honolulu, captured four gold medals in the Senior Olympics held at Las Vegas this past weekend.

Heidrich, 61, won three gold medals Saturday, finishing first in the 400-meter, 800-meter and 1,500-meter runs.

Yesterday she took first in the triathlon with a time of one hour, 25 minutes and 38 seconds. Not only was Heidrich first in her age group, but she was the overall winner in the event that consisted of a 400-meter swim, 20-kilometer walk and a five-kilometer run.



NAM WINS MAYOR'S CUP

Robert Nam shot a 69 yesterday for a 139 total to capture the 36-hole Mayor's Cup golf tournament at the Ala Wai Course.

Steve Yogi was the runner-up at 142. Ryan Nakata and Sam Oishi tied for third place with 145.

Anna Umemura won the Ladies Flight with a 73-73-146 effort.

Kristel Kakugawa finished second with a 73-81-154.

Sun Cha Kim was the low net winner with a 89-82-(19)-133.



WAHINE, BULLDOGS TIE

The University of Hawaii women's soccer team battled Fresno State to a 0-0 overtime tie in a Western Athletic Conference match yesterday at Ala Wai Field.

The Bulldogs had five shots on goal, the Wahine three.



TANTALUS WINNERS

Jonathan Lott and Lisa Hokyo won the men's and women's divisions, respectively, yesterday in the 10-kilometer Tantalus road race.

Lott was timed in one hour, one minute, 42 seconds. Hokyo finished in 1:20:24.



FIRST WITH McGRUFF

Chris Crawford placed first in the eight-kilometer McGruff fun run at Kapiolani Park yesterday with a time of 27 minutes, 11 seconds.

Christine Patrick won the women's title in 31:04.



BRUNTON TO FINLAND

Tania Brunton, an all-conference forward on the University of Hawaii women's basketball team, has signed a pro contract to play in Finland.

The opportunity prevents Brunton from returning to haunt her Wahine teammates Nov. 23.

UH opens the season with an exhibition game against the New Zealand national team, a team Brunton has been a member of since she was 15.



PORTER NAMED

Dave Porter, assistant professor of physical education and the men's and women's tennis coach at Brigham Young University-Hawaii, has been named to the national board of director of the United States Professional Tennis Association.
