Arthritis Foundation drive: Volunteers will be recruited by telephone for the “Our Home to Yours” program to raise funds for arthritis education, prevention and research.

The Foundation seeks one volunteer in each neighborhood who will mail letters requesting donations from residents, then forward donations to the local office. Call 235-3636 on Oahu, 244-0290 on Maui, 800-462-0743 neighbor islands.

Hawaii’s Race for the Cure: Register by Friday for the walk/run, 4 p.m. Oct. 19 at Restaurant Row. The Susan G. Komen Foundation fund-raiser for breast cancer research offers participants the choice of a 5K run or one-mile walk. Groups of five or more may register together for $15 per person. Call 973-5967. Plant and baked goods sale: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Hale Pulama Mau Auditorium, Kuakini Medical Center. Proceeds go to Kuakini Foundation.

McGruff Fun Run: Annual anti-crime fund-raiser will be Sunday at Kapiolani Park. The 8K race starts 6:30 a.m., the 3K race 7:30 a.m. Registration costs $17 general, $14 children -- $20 and $17 for both courses. Call 255-4479. Supports projects that teach children how to keep safe from crime.

Scholarship Gala: Featuring entertainment by Cathy Foy, Rocky Brown, Nina Ke‘ali‘iwahamana and John Valentine, 6 p.m. Sunday, Sheraton Waikiki Hotel. Le Masquerade: Honolulu Theatre for Youth presents a “black tie and mask optional” gala Oct. 26 at the Hawaii Prince Hotel. HTY honors Indru and Gulab Watumull for their support of the arts. Fund-raiser begins with a silent auction at 6 p.m.; Laurence Paxton, Matthew Pedersen, Leda Asher Yager and Beebe Freitas perform a musical tribute; mask contest and dancing to music by Full Circle. Memory Walk: Packet pickup noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 26 at Borders, Ward Centre, for the Alzheimer’s Association of Honolulu walk-a-thon Nov. 2. Registration begins 6:30 a.m. Nov. 2 for the 4.5-mile stroll, which begins (and ends) at Ward Gateway/Ward Warehouse and winds through Kakaako, Waterfront Park and Ala Moana Park.
