Bankoh Talk Story Festival: The free celebration begins with "Spooky Stories," 7 to 9:30 p.m. at McCoy Pavilion. Gates open at 6 p.m.
On Saturday, storytellers fill four stages - with one stage especially for children - 1 to 9 p.m. at McCoy Pavilion, Ala Moana Beach Park. Opening ceremonies begin at noon. Both events are free, sponsored by the Department of Parks and Recreation, Bank of Hawaii and the State Foundation on Culture & the Arts.
Zoo programs: "Folk Tales and Animal Tails" invite children ages 5 to 11 to exercise their abilities in theater and creative drama, 9 a.m. to noon Saturday and Sunday at the Honolulu Zoo.
