Where to get answers
on the gulf war syndrome

QUESTION: There's been a lot of news lately about the gulf war syndrome. I have questions about the problem and want to know where I can go to get answers.

ANSWER: There are several sources, starting with the Department of Veterans Affairs. It has developed a a toll free help line at 1-800-749-8387.

Automated information is available 24 hours a day. Attendants are available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Eastern standard time).

For questions about medical treatment, or to add a name to the Defense Department's Persian Gulf Veteran's Registry, call 1-800-796-9699 weekdays between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. (Eastern standard time).

If you want to access information by computer, the VA has an electronic bulletin board at 1-800-871-8387. It also has a home page on the World Wide Web at http://www.va.gov.
