OPENING

Academy Art Center, 1111 Victoria St., 532-8700. “Songs For My Ancestors,” paintings and sculpture by A. Kimberlin Blackburn, opens Sunday. Show continues through Oct. 31.

“Turning the Page,” the International Book Arts Exhibition organized by the Honolulu Printmakers, opens with a festival and demonstrations 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. “Ka Lei Ho‘oheno,” a collection of mele in English and Hawaiian by Puakea Nogelmeier -- and a “Turning the Page” collaboration -- will be on view. Show continues through Oct. 30.

University of Hawaii Commons Gallery, Art Building, 2535 The Mall, 956-6888. “Transforms,” thesis exhibition of etchings “pulled from zinc,” by Sheri Frye, opens with a reception 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Frye creates abstract geometric designs with textural effects. Show continues through Oct. 11.
