Hartford, Conn. - President Clinton and Bob Dole meet in first of two presidential debates. 9 p.m.

Beverly Hills, Calif. - 30th anniversary tribute to "Star Trek."

Albuquerque, N.M. - International Balloon Fiesta continues with mass ascension.



MONDAY, Oct. 7:

Stockholm, Sweden - Nobel medicine/physiology prize to be announced.

Bujumbura, Burundi - Parliament meets for first time since military coup in July.

New Delhi, India - Supreme Court hearing in Former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao's bribery case.

Tunis, Tunisia - Michael Jackson's first concert in Tunisia, after canceling dates in Casablanca, Morocco.

Washington - Federal Reserve releases August consumer credit.

Washington - Supreme Court hears arguments. Through Oct. 9.

Washington - Congress is in recess until January.

Phoenix - Motions heard in the case involving fraud and extortion charges against Gov. Fife Symington.

Jefferson, Wis. - Hearing for Michael Maldonado who seeks a new trial the hired killing case of teacher Diane Borchardt's estranged husband.

Muskogee, Okla. - Four white men stand trial on federal charges in alleged racist attack on blacks in 1994.

Madison, Wis. - Federal trial on state law that would require women to consult with a doctor at least 24 hours before having an abortion.

Albuquerque, N.M. - Former DEA agent Celerino Castillo to announce a hunger strike until his reports on the drug trade and Contra war in Nicaragua are released.



TUESDAY, Oct. 8:

Stockholm, Sweden - Nobel economics prize to be announced

Bournemouth, England - Conservative Party conference. Through Oct. 11.

Singapore - Earth Summit secretary-general assesses its results four year later.

Pingxiang, China - Commodity trade fair opens in city on China's border with Vietnam. Through Oct. 10

Srinagar, India - New Kashmiri state legislature is reconvened for first time since a separatist war began in 1989.

Washington - The Supreme Court hears arguments. 10 a.m.

St. Paul, Minn. - Federal judge hears state's arguments that tobacco companies have not been producing information about destroyed documents.

Santa Ana, Calif. - Retrial in the Rubino-Orange County bankruptcy case.



WEDNESDAY, Oct. 9:

Stockholm, Sweden - Nobel physics and chemistry prizes announced.

Copenhagen, Denmark - European culture ministers gather to discuss the future of culture in a digital world.

Kunming, China - The Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Festival, China's top film festival, opens. Through Oct. 13.

Washington - The Supreme Court hears arguments. 10 a.m.

St. Petersburg, Fla. - Vice President Al Gore and Jack Kemp, Republican vice presidential candidate, debate.

Staunton, Va. - Preliminary hearing for Catherine Ann Christianson, former soap opera actress accused of trying to hire a hit man to kill her husband.

THURSDAY, Oct. 10:

South Africa - National census, the first under democratic rule. Through Oct 31.

Washington - Labor Department releases weekly jobless claims.

Huntsville, Texas - Scheduled executions of Brian Roberson, convicted of a 1986 double killing, and Gustavo Garcia, convicted of a 1990 robbery-slaying.

Phoenix - Agency that monitors judges' conduct holds hearing on judge who helped tennis star Andre Agassi in negotiations with Nike.

Beloit, Wis. - Preliminary hearing for Native American leader John W. Sharlow accused of inappropriately touching four women and a girl during a healing ceremony.

Beverly Hills, Calif. - Auction of George Burns' property.

Oslo, Norway - Nobel Peace prize announced.

Brakpan, South Africa - Start of trial of alleged serial killer Moses Sithole.

New Delhi, India - Health ministers from 14 countries worst affected by leprosy hold conference. Through Oct. 13.

Washington - Labor Department releases September producer price index; Commerce Department releases September retail sales.

Huntsville, Texas - Former German POW Erwin Rother visits site of camp where he was held during WWII.

Fort Worth, Texas - Girl Scout National Council votes on proposed changes in Girl Scout Motto and Law.

Waukesha, Wis. - Hearing on request by former state senator Dale T. McKenna to postpone his trial on charges of sexually assaulting two 17-year-old boys.
