According to the big dictionary that weighs as much as my car, "window" comes from the Old Norse "vindrauga", or literally, "eye of the wind." That's pretty cool.
At any root, the many-windowed building on Waimano Home Road is the "Pearl City Heights Pumping Station Suburban Water System." There's another sign that says DANGER CHLORINE.
"It's a booster station," said some shy don't-use-my-name-cause-too-shame guy at the Board of Water Supply's Manana yards. "It takes water from the area and pushes it uphill. There are two reservoirs, each about a hundred feet higher in elevation."
And the chlorine? Are people swimming in the reservoirs?
"No, the water is really clean. We just add a little chlorine to take care of anything growing on the wall of the reservoir."
And all the windows? What's the deal?
"Just looks nice. Plenty light. Saves electricity."
