Jewel Lafferty
won kudos for paintings

Jewel Lafferty took on another career after her children grew up.

She took up painting, and many of her paintings were in exhibits in Hawaii and the mainland from 1970-80. She won many awards.

Lafferty, 70, of Hawaii, a registered nurse and artist, died Sept. 27 at home.

She is survived by sister Bonnie Hammersley; sons Brian and Michael; and two grandchildren.

Private services. Donations suggested to St. Francis Hospice.

Lagalaga S. Alo, 78, of Utah and Laie, died Sunday in Utah. She is survived by daughters Nancy Avei, Vai Wily and Fale Finai; sons Kika, Pule, Fui and Ben; sisters Fiatau Pita and Siapo Feesago; 25 grandchildren; and 42 great-grandchildren. Vicente A. Bumagat, 80, of Hilo, a former proprietor of the Pohahawai Barbershop, died Thursday in Hilo Hospital. Karmi-Zara B. Grajo, infant daughter of Karim-Azar and Lilian Grajo, died last Monday in Honolulu.
