Insuring agents' education

Insurance industry professionals are having to hit the books to keep up with new laws, changing insurance products and new marketing plans, said Roger Nite, new president of the West Honolulu Association of Life Underwriters.

"We're emphasizing education to make agents more knowledgeable about new state and federal laws," Nite said.

One example is the Individual Retirement Accounts which have limits on how much money can be accumulated and taken out, Nite said. "Retirement (IRAs) is considered an insurance product," he said.

Nite has 18 years experience in the insurance industry, including eight years with Dennis C. H. Kim & Associates where he is vice president. He has been active in the underwriters' association for 15 years.

Nite has been married to the former Tamar Panee for 20 years. They have six children and reside in Kaneohe.
