Flu shots are available
at various isle locations

QUESTION: Will free flu shots be offered to senior citizens again this season?

ANSWER: There are several ways of obtaining flu shots. Eligible veterans can receive free flu shots at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs clinic in the Federal Building, Room 2307. Special vaccination clinics will be held Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 to 10 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. and Tuesdays from 4 to 7 p.m.

Castle Home Care will be at Longs Drug Stores, Safeway and Times Super Markets offering the flu vaccine for $15. For older patients the vaccine is covered by Medicare B. For other patients, the recoverable costs vary with their medical insurance coverage. The hours are:

Shots also are offered by private physicians and at health and community clinics. Flu shots are covered for senior members of the Kaiser program, and free flu shots are available from any clinic. Kaiser members are advised to call for an appointment.

The influenza vaccine is recommended for people 65 and older and those with chronic heart, lung, kidney diseases or diabetes.
