tell tales at Big Isle contest
KCCN radio is hosting the annual "Clyde 'Kindy' Sproat Falsetto and Storytelling Contest" beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Kahilu Theater on the Big Island. Following the contest, there will be a mini-concert featuring Sproat, Akoni M. Kana'eholo, Kalei Bridges, Darlene Ahuna, Gary Haleamau and Ledward Kaapana, emceed by KCCN's Keaumiki Akui.
The event will be broadcast over KCCN 1420 AM. Admission to the event is $3 with Aloha Festivals ribbon. Information: 808-885-8086.
Celebrate Portuguese heritage
"Festa '96" celebrates Portuguese culture in Hawaii, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Kapiolani Park. Events include cultural exhibits, family genealogies, Portuguese foods, folk dancing, arts and crafts, a country fair and Frank De Lima.
There's a raffle drawing on Sunday in exchange for a $1 donation.

Buff bods compete
The "Hawaiian Muscle and Bikini Classic," a bodybuilding event, occurs at 7 p.m. Friday at the Sheraton Waikiki Hawaii Ballroom. The contest will include best physique in four different categories and the Miss Hawaiian Tropics bikini contest. Prizes include cash and customized Harley-Davidson motorcycles, plus exposure on ESPN.
Admission is $25, $30 and $40. Information: 456-3513.
