The Korean Artist Association of Hawaii show opens with a reception 5 to 7 p.m. Monday. Show continues in the courtyard through Oct. 17.

Hui No'eau Visual Arts Center, 2841 Baldwin Ave., Makawao, 572-6560, Maui. "A Slanted View," woodblock prints by Michael T. Hondo, wood turnings by Wayne N. Omura and paintings and ceramics by Sidney T.K. Yee, opens with a reception 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Show continues through Nov. 8.

University of Hawaii Commons Gallery, Art Building, 2535 The Mall, 956-6888. Exhibit by Allen Hori, on view Sunday through Sept. 27. Gallery walk-through 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. "Ka Po'e Hawai'i Ma Ka Hana (Hawaii's people at work)," photography of people at work by Hawaii high school students, through Nov. 8.

"Mountain Peaks," landscapes from the Academy's collection of Chinese paintings, on view through Dec. 1. Chinese painters of the Ming and Qing periods (14th to 18th centuries) kept a strict tradition in composing images.

"Modern Design (1920-1960)" reflects the major changes of the century, through March 16. Silver, glass and ceramic items from the Academy's collection highlight changes in the arts of the United States, Russia and Europe.

"The Ceramic Tradition of Asia," Mingei ceramics, blue and white porcelain, celadon and other pieces from different cultures, through July 1997.

Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii, 2454 S. Beretania St., 945-7633. "Strength and Diversity: The Story of Japanese American Women in Hawaii," on view through Jan. 17. "Strength," adapted from the National Japanese American Historical Society-Oakland Museum exhibit, chronicles the life stories and contributions of four generations of women, from plantation to contemporary community.
