It was not illegal to send
bullet casing in the mail
QUESTION: I read in the paper that an elected official - a state senator - mailed a bullet casing to his constituents as part of his campaign materials. Was that legal? Were any laws broken?
ANSWER: No laws were broken, according to Milton Arimoto, U.S. Postal Service district manager. "There is no prohibition against mailing a bullet casing which contains no powder," he said. What are strictly regulated are handguns and ammunition, he said. Only certain individuals, such as registered gun dealers, can mail and receive such items.
