Hawaiian Lu'au Taro Oil slides into the annual food products show.
By Ken Sakamoto, Star-Bulletin
The clear, olive green-tinted oil is a combination of luau (young taro leaf) essential-oil extract and sunflower oil.
Inventor Maria Gollestani of Kona said the product has a shelf and refrigerator life of up to two months, and comes plain, with dried Kona-grown herbs or with chile peppers. Use the oil on salads or pastas.
"Dip French bread in it," Gollestani said. "The flavor is incredible."
It costs $5 for an eight-ounce bottle in Kona stores or is available by mail order. Call 1-800-390-9995.
Other products featured at the Made with Aloha Festival include East & West Gourmet fruit salsas, Islands' Best gift items, Kanemitsu breads and jellies, Ono Manju mochi and manju, Maui Juice Co. juices, Meadow Gold smoothies and Kona Moka, Molokai coffee, School Kine cookies, and Italian Sistahs biscotti, marinara sauces and herb vinegars.
