Caz helped with bagz in Vegas

Cristy Agres
HIGH priced baggage handlers: When Mrs. Hawaii, Cristy Agres, left Honolulu for Las Vegas where she'll be competing in the Mrs. America pageant Saturday, she was loaded down with luggage. This will come as no surprise to any woman - or man, for that matter - who's traveled to the mainland. And husband Larry, who couldn't join her until later this week, was worried about her being able to handle five pieces of luggage, including garment bags containing her competition gowns. But she called him from Vegas to inform him she had two wonderful escorts who helped with her luggage both during her stopover in L.A. and in Vegas when they all arrived together. They even had their limo drop her off at the Las Vegas Hilton, where she's staying during pageant week. So who were these knights in shining armor? Why, none other than Robert & Roland Cazimero, who were on the same Hawaiian Air flight as Mrs. Hawaii, en route to do a concert at the Sammy Davis Jr. Theater. Aloha lives ...

WHICH brings us to Cazi's Hot Laulaus, owner Lionel Cazimero's 60-calorie laulau treats. He'll be selling his bite-size laulaus at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki's third annual "Made With Aloha" festival Friday from 5 to 10 p.m. Admission is free to the public and there'll be live Hawaiian music and hula to go with the more than 100 Hawaii-made products on display ...

AT last, a Cazimero-free zone: My son Brendan, visiting from the University of Minnesota, took me to Singha Thai Restaurant in Canterbury Place Monday night. It was my first visit there, despite the fact that much praise has been heaped on it, such as four stars from the Star-Bulletin's Nadine Kam and the Hale Aina Award twice from Honolulu magazine. It deserves all the praise, with classic Thai dishes in an elegant yet casual setting with Thai dancers entertaining. Chef Chai Chaowasaree must be doing something right - the place was packed on a Monday night and even "Let's Go Fishing's" Hari Kojima was on hand celebrating his birthday. And at the door, chef Chai also sells a 98-minute video guide to Thai cooking. It's the best Thai food I've had this side of Bangkok ...

Rosie and Danno an item?

THE "Hawaii Five-O" mystique continues. Jay Leno, interviewing Bette Midler about her life in Hawaii Monday night, utilized the catch phrase, "Book 'em, Danno." And Jim MacArthur, who played Danno on "Five-O" told Emme Tomimbang, interviewing him for an upcoming "Island Moments" segment on the series, that Rosie O'Donnell has been angling to get him to guest on her new talk show. One reason may be because, as she informed her viewers recently, "I sleep in Danno's room." Translation: Rosie bought MacArthur's old boyhood home. She also is curious about the upcoming "Hawaii Five-O" reunions being planned. And if that isn't enough, the National Enquirer piece on Jack Lord and the rumors surrounding his health is now in supermarkets. Incidentally, Zulu (or Zoulou, as Gilbert Kauhi decided to spell it after it was already established) is recuping from surgery at St. Francis Medical Center and is now preparing for dialysis treatment ...

Michael Jordan
A RECENT visitor to the spa at the Ihilani Resort was speechless when he found himself standing face to face with basketball legend Michael Jordan, fresh from having a manicure. If that's what it takes to develop a shot like Mike's, you can expect to see lots of very tall chaps in a line at the spa's manicurist tables ...

Over a Cheever trade

LONGTIME ad exec Dave Cheever, who also owns the Bike Way, had his eye on a '96 Volkswagen Jetta Trek, the model designed to carry a bicycle. He found one to his liking at Mike McKenna's Windward Volkswagen/Mazda and offered to trade in an old Ford for it. How old? Well, 65 years old - a carefully restored 1931 Model A Ford Phaeton. So how much trade can you get on a 65-year-old Ford. Said McKenna manager Howard Finley, "Let's just say that it was one hell of a savings account." ...
