"We'll be much more actively involved in developing strategies to gain a greater presence in Asia," said Tony Vericella, the new regional vice president.

"This will generate business globally for Budget, as well as right here in Hawaii."

He joined Budget four years ago. Before that he was regional vice president and general manager for American Express Travel Related Services Co. Inc.-Hawaii.

Vericella, a Hawaii resident for 13 years, has been chairman of the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau since 1995.

He currently serves as vice board chairman for the Academy of Travel & Tourism. He is also on the Governor's Executive Council for the Hawaii School to Work program.
