How do I go about doing this?
ANSWER: Ken Goldstein, executive vice president of Computer-Aided Technologies, still coordinates this volunteer effort. However, there have been some changes made. He is no longer centrally located in town and has arranged for the computers to be picked up by the Department of Education. Call Kerry Koide at 733-4780 to arrange to have your computer picked up.
Koide says students and teachers at Roosevelt High School, led by Wally Ikei and Shelly Tottori, repair the computers, and the DOE distributes them to the schools by advertising them on its electronic mail network. Other Oahu schools contemplating similar programs are Kahuku, Castle and Kalaheo high schools. Koide says the DOE is looking for volunteers willing to offer technical support to these schools. The DOE also hopes to expand the program eventually to Kauai High School and Maui's Baldwin High School.
Koide asks that the computers be repairable and not stripped down.
