Deane W. Malott, former personal assistant to James Dole, founder of Dole Pineapple Co., died Wednesday at home in Ithaca, N.Y. He was 98. He was Cornell University's sixth president. He served from 1951 to 1963, a time of rapid expansion for the university. He also was vice president of the Hawaiian Pineapple Co. of Honolulu. Malott is survived by son Robert H.; daughters Janet M. Elliott and Edith M. LaBonte, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held later.
Dennis Manipon, 53, of Bellevue, Wash., a native of Kauai, died Saturday at home. Manipon, a journeyman meat cutter for Hughes Market and Fred Meyers, had a rock'n'roll band called the Chevelles.
