Return unsolicited books,
and the bill, to sender

QUESTION: I received books in the mail which I did not order. I still haven't opened them. I don't want the books. What should I do?

ANSWER: Write on the front of the address label: "RETURN TO SENDER. DELIVERY REFUSED." Then give the package to your letter carrier. The package will be sent back to the publisher. You should be aware, however, that a bill for those books was probably sent at the same time the books were. Once you receive the bill, send the publisher a letter saying that the books were sent to you unsolicited and that you returned them. Keep a copy of your letter.
