Riggin Soule, McLachlin cited

Aileen Riggin Soule and Parker McLachlin have been named the Honolulu Quarterback Club's Sportspersons of the Month for August.

Riggin Soule broke five records at the U.S. Masters National Long Course Swimming Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich., in the 90-94 division.

McLachlin won the individual title at the Junior America's Cup golf tournament, and led the Hawaii team to its first team championship since 1978.

Riggin Soule and McLachlin will be honored at Monday's meeting of the Honolulu Quarterback Club at Flamingo Chuckwagon.

Guest speakers will be University of Hawaii head football coach Fred vonAppen, Honolulu Touch Tackle League director Rick Berrios and KHNL reporter Lyle Galdeira.

The luncheon meeting starts at 11:30 and is open to the public.



MOUNTAIN BIKE RACES

The Grundig/UCI Mountain Bike World Cup finals competition will be held tomorrow and Sunday.

The international series totals 16 races - 10 cross country and six downhill. The downhill will be held on St. Louis Heights tomorrow with the women's semifinal beginning at 10 a.m. and the men's semifinal starting at noon. The women's final is scheduled for 3 p.m.; the men's final for 3:30 p.m.

The cross country events will be held Sunday at Kualoa Ranch. The women's race starts at 10 a.m. and the men's begins at 1 p.m.

ALOHA STADIUM BUSES

TheBus Aloha Stadium Football Express will running for tomorrow's college football game at 7:05 p.m. between the Ohio University and the University of Hawaii.

The express buses will service the Windward area, Hawaii Kai, Kahala Mall, Kaimuki, Waikiki, the University of Hawaii and Ala Moana Center.

The one-way fare is $2 (no change given). Transfers will not be issued or accepted and passes will not be honored.

American Box Car Racing International is holding its seventh summer box car competition tomorrow in the upper parking lot at Koko Head District Park starting at 9 a.m.

NATATORIUM VOLLEYBALL

The Waikiki Natatorium Beach Boys Volleyball Club will host a three-man draw tournament (fireman rules) Sunday 9 at the Waikiki Natatorium starting at 9 a.m.

HPU SOFTBALL MEETING

There will be a pre-tryout meeting for Hawaii Pacific University students interested in playing softball for the Sea Warriors Sunday at 1 p.m. at HPU's Windward Campus field.
