Tanaka has inside scoop on interiors

Consumers can get free advice on interior design next February when the "Designer's Saturday" takes on a new format, said Audrey Tanaka, the new Hawaii chapter president of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID).

"We will offer mini-appointments, free 20-minute consultations, to anyone who wants help for a project, big or small," Tanaka said.

The local chapter also is working with sponsors of the "Tools for Life" expo on Feb. 26-27 which deals with ways to make buildings more accessible to physically impaired persons. The ASID chapter also wants to educate the public on the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Tanaka, an interior designer for 18 years, is co-owner of Remodeling Specialists Hawaii which mostly does residential interior renovations. She earned a bachelor's degree in fine arts at the University of Hawaii.
