Book offers guide to
politics on Web

The Web is fast and free, but sometimes to get what you want, it is easier to start with paper.

A case in point: Vote SmartWeb Yellowpages - your one-stop shopping for political information.

This is where you go first to track down reports on any issue and all federal candidates. It is the handiest source for all issue and candidate information available for 'Net surfers.

The 245-page book, listing thousands of public policy and political Web pages is available free by calling 1-800-622-SMAR(T).

Or you can pick it up from the Net at http://www.vote-smart.org.

The project is a national, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization founded by former Presidents Ford and Carter designed to offer the quickest way through the swamp of distortions and half-

truths spread during campaign seasons.

For local information, the state's latest Web site is http://www.hawaii.gov/elections, sponsored by the office of elections, the county clerks and the state.

You will find voter registration information, details on all elections and sometime after the election, complete vote totals.

Finally, the Honolulu Star-Bulletin's own Web site, http://starbulletin.com, today adds a search engine to its own online pages. Turn the page to http://starbulletin.com/search.html and you can search back online editions by either key word or word concept.

"Home on the Web" is a weekly Friday feature of the Star-Bulletin.
