The woman's body was found about 8:35 a.m. yesterday near the entrance to Waiamao trail and the end of Keaolele Place in Palolo.
Ledoux, 50, of Makaleka Street, Kaimuki, fell into the stream after saving a young hiker who had fallen in while a group was returning from a hike on the trail around 6:30 p.m., investigators said.
A friend of her son fell into the stream and she retrieved the 10-year-old boy but lost her balance and fell in, slipping away from her son's reach as he tried to save her, witnesses told authorities.
Firefighters, family and friends searched Saturday night and early yesterday morning before the body was found.
The man who found the body said Waiamao Stream flows right through his property. He asked not to be identified.
The man said hikers along the trail can get into trouble during storm conditions because they have to cross the stream seven times to get out of the valley.
"It's a very mild stream in a lot of ways, but it was just a flood (Saturday)," he said.
The waters may have receded by as much as 6 to 8 feet by yesterday morning, the man said.
The medical examiner's office will conduct an autopsy tomorrow, an investigator said.
