Write a letter describing the situation. There are no preprinted forms to be used to file a complaint. Provide the name, address and telephone number of the attorney and explain what you regard as misconduct on the attorney's part.
Send your letter to: Office of Disciplinary Counsel, 1164 Bishop St., Suite 600, Honolulu 96813. Enclose photocopies of documents that might be involved. For more detailed information, call 521-4591.
There is no fee and there is no time limit. But, in any situation, it is better to take action sooner than later. As time passes, memories and recall fade, documents get lost, people move, and it may be more difficult to present your case.
"Mahalo to the very thoughtful person who turned my car keys in at Times market in the Kaimuki shopping center lower parking lot. I inadvertently left the keys in the passenger side door when I was rushing to eat a late lunch. Bless you for finding those keys and turning them in. You made my day." - P.A.
"Auwe to the man we graciously allowed into our yard in Maunalani Heights to pick some mangoes from our tree. (We had far more than we could ever hope to consume.) You really did a number on our tree. Those five or six fruits you left us on the tree should keep us supplied for weeks. Next time, we'll leave the door to our house open so you can take the mangoes from our kitchen as well. It was also nice that you were providing your young daughter who was with you such a valuable lesson in sharing and aloha." - Alan C.
