Okinawan Festival
at Kapiolani Park
The Okinawan Festival runs 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Kapiolani Park, celebrating nearly a century of Okinawan heritage in Hawaii.
The event, sponsored by the Hawaii United Okinawan Association, is themed "Kahuushi..." and will feature bon dances, panraku parades, taiko drumming, Okinawan food and dance.
Popular Hawaiian sweeties Na Leo Pilimehana performs 3 p.m. Saturday.
The event is free, and there is free park-and shuttle service from Kapiolani Community College 7 a.m. to 8 p.m both days. Information: 676-5400.
Locals jammin' Sunday
The "Best of Local Jams" occurs at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Waikiki Shell. Performers include the Makaha Sons, Bruddah Waltah, Na Leo Pilimehana, Darren Benitez, Fiji, Sistah Robi, Tropical Knights, the Ka'au Crater Boys and Israel Kamakawiwo'ole.
Admission is $18, $20 and $22. Information: 596-2444.
Do ya play a mean pinball?
Hear me, feel me - The Who's rock opera "Tommy," opening Sept. 11 at Manoa Valley Theatre, is enough excuse to hold a "Hawaii Pinball Wizard" contest at 6 p.m. Saturday at The Pier Bar in Aloha Tower Marketplace, and repeating on Sept. 7.
Open to everyone at least 18 years old, the winner will get a dinner/theatre package to see "Tommy." The first 50 entrants will get "Tommy" CDs.

Support the arts
It's a regular culture-fest at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Honolulu Academy of Arts - "SFCA" is a group exhibition and performance of State Foundation on Culture and the Arts fellowship recipients.
We're talking about new works by choreographers Peter-Rockford Ututau Espiritu and Cheryl Flaharty, dance video by Eva Lee and photo exhibitions by Renee Iijima, Anne Kapulani Landgraf and Franco Salmoiraghi.
