"We've reorganized the branch system to three major regions: two ... on Oahu (East and West) and neighbor islands," Kawano said.
While the branch administration has been reorganized, most of Central Pacific's recent expansion has been into retail stores, he said. The bank just opened branches at Times supermarkets in Kaimuki and Kahala, and at a Sure Save in Hilo. Kawano noted that the Kapaa branch on Kauai will be relocated into a Big Save store by the end of the year.
Kawano began as a management trainee at Central Pacific Bank in 1972. He most recently was vice president and manager of the Moiliili branch. He earned a bachelor's degree in business management at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
Central Pacific Bank is Hawaii's third largest commercial bank with close to $1.4 billion in assets and 26 branches statewide.
