Hawaii chamber
meets with Pacific officials

Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii officials plan to meet with their counterparts from the Pacific region to find common business interests.

Chamber officials were scheduled to meet with a delegation of business leaders from French Polynesia today, and with representatives of the nation of Bhutan on tomorrow. The goal is to develop better economic ties and spur growth, said Stanley Hong, the chamber president.

The French Polynesian delegation has been in Hawaii since last week, looking to make contacts in aquaculture and in manufactured island foods.

Bhutan, a nation located between India and Tibet, is in Hawaii at the invitation of officials from the East-West Center. They will meet with chamber officials to discuss ways to improve economic development in their nation.


Isle cruise line parent sells New Orleans hotel

CHICAGO - American Classic Voyages Co. has agreed to sell the Maison Dupuy Hotel in New Orleans to the Thayer Lodging Group for $22 million cash.

American Classic Voyages, parent company of cruise lines American Hawaii Cruises and the Delta Queen Steamboat Co., yesterday said the proceeds will be used to reduce its bank debt and fund capital expenditures. The company said it bought the hotel in 1985 for $12 million. The transaction is expected to close on Oct. 16.

Thayer Lodging Group, of Annapolis, Md., owns 15 hotels.
