The two former city lifeguards plan to leave Papohaka Beach on Molokai at 5:30 a.m. and finish at Waikiki's Kuhio Beach at about noon.
The 45-mile crossing is part of a fund-raising effort for the Arthritis Foundation in Hawaii.
The event pits 20-person teams against a 50-ton Boeing 737, donated by Aloha Airlines. Teams must pull the plane 12 feet by a rope, with awards given for the fastest pull and the team with the lowest combined weight.
The entry fee is $500 per team.
Entry forms are available at sporting goods stores, health clubs and by calling Hawaii Special Olympics at 531-1888.
Marcus has been an assistant coach at Chaminade since 1994. Griess has been an assistant coach at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, for the past three years. He played for Walker at Colorado College from 1989-93.
Registration fee is $20 in advance and $25 the day of the race.
The event benefits the Cancer Research Center of Hawaii and the American Cancer Society.
