For Roger Godfrey, president of Fleming Companies Inc., the food industry has been his life.

At the age of 15, he began working in the food warehouse of the family business. Today, he is the new chairman and chief executive officer for the Hawaii Food Industry Association.

"We want to expand our membership and increase our income," Godfrey said.

He has been active in both the retail and wholesale sides of the food industry in Hawaii. Fleming Companies boasts more than 285,000 square feet of storage space at the Campbell Industrial Park and acts as a major food reserve for the state.

Godfrey began the Hawaii portion of his career in 1974 with Certified Grocers of Hawaii, the Foodland warehouse operation. He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration at the University of Wisconsin and a master's degree in business administration at Stanford University.
