
I THOUGHT I knew Ramsay pretty well but after reading Lance Tominaga's well-written piece on the artist in the August Aloha magazine, I learned even more. But Lance didn't find out the story about Ramsay and Michigan State Spartans football coach Biggie Munn. Ramsay's parents, Robert and Ruth Ann Ramsay, were resident advisers in the early-1950s for 1,500 MSU young men, including the football players. Little Ramsay was the darling of the team. She still has a football signed by the coach and team members. Munn, who had a blazing 28-game winning streak going from 1950-53, gave Ramsay his lucky silver dollar as a present. His team lost the very next game to the Purdue Boilermakers, 6-0 ...

I CALLED former MSU and Kansas City Chiefs lineman Jim Nicholson, an attorney, to talk about the Ramsay-Munn connection. Jim was a Spartan in 1968-72. He referred me to Larry Cundiff. "He's the oldest Spartan around," said big Jim about Cundiff. Cundiff also coached prep star Nicholson at St. Louis. The "oldest Spartan" could not be reached for comment ...
