Gary Haleamau is one of the performers on the bill for the Moloka'i Music Festival taking place Aug. 17.

Among those appearing at the R.W. Meyer Sugar Mill at Kala'e, Moloka'i, will be Zachary Helm, Gary Haleamau, Auntie Genoa Keawe, Ikaika Brown, Lauoho, Pu'u Kapu, Hawaiian Time, Kula Kaiapuni O Kualapuu, the Sugar Mill Slack Key Band and Halau Ke Ahi O Ka Malulani.

Tickets are on sale through Aug. 12 at the sugar mill, Moloka'i Museum and Cultural Center, Neighborhood Store, Moloka'i Sight and Sound, Big Wind Kite Factory and Kaluakoi Hotel. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for students and free for keiki. Tickets at the door will be $2 higher.

The show begins with Pule at 8 a.m., with Hawaiian Time scheduled to close the event about 4 p.m.

No coolers will be allowed.

The investiture, or ho'ola'a will feature King Ian Mahealani Meyers, Queen Julia Analika Van Kuren, Prince Kawelo Kawaimapuanaokalani Kawainui and Princess Kahea Mahana Lehuanani Tina. All will be dressed in traditional Hawaiian costumes, and hula will be performed by Robert Cazimero and Halau Na Kamalei.

A dinner of Hawaiian food will take place at Kawaiha'o Church after the investiture, with Kealoha Kalama and Halau Hula 'O Pohai Kealoha providing the dinner entertainment.

More than 150 slack-roping teams will compete, with the action getting underway 11 a.m. Saturday and noon Sunday.

Pro-Am contests include calf roping, bull riding, daily team roping, calf mugging, barrel racing and breakaway roping, as well as the novelty event, Wild Cow Milking.

The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a large variety of bonsai, as well as house plants, landscapers, fruit trees, ground covers, anthuriums, vegetables and flowers. Bonsai master Ed Nakanishi will show how bonsai is created at 10:30 a.m.

Mililani High School is at 95-1200 Meheula Parkway.

"Ka Ilulina Au" will feature Na Hoku Hanohano Award winner Keali'i Reichel, the "Ki Ho'alu Kid" Matt Swalinkavich, and Jon Osorio and Steve Brown, along with Randy Borden.

Tickets are priced at $45, $32.50 and $15 at the theater box office and Connection outlets, with proceeds benefiting the Angel Network Charities, which helps to shelter Hawaii's homeless.
