'Restless' star gets Dever fever

Victoria Rowell
WHILE the Olympic Games are thankfully behind us for the next four years, the thoughts of gold remain. Olympian Gail Devers - she of the golden nails - inspired actress Victoria Rowell to go for the gold in Waikiki. While dining with "Rich and Famous" host Robin Leach at Singha Thai, she was mesmerized by the long, golden nails of the Royal Thai Dancers. Rowell, who appears on both "The Young & the Restless" and "Diagnosis Murder," was brought on stage, outfitted with a golden Thai crown and slipped on 10 of the 24-karat golden nail covers. Rowell then proceeded to play the part of a dancing girl, mimicking the others prancing around the stage. Leach, meanwhile, sipped his Singha beer and beamed, "What a fabulous town." ...

SPEAKING of Rowell, she's now demonstrated that, aside from acting and Thai dancing, she may have an aptitude as a travel agent. Before embarking on her trip to Oahu, Victoria told her personal travel agent that she'd already arranged to stay at Ihilani Resort & Spa. And to her surprise, when filming something called "Gourmet Getaways" with the aforementioned Leach, Rowell noticed her travel agent relaxing by the resort's lagoon. Turns out the agent thought Victoria's travel plans sounded so delightful that she took her advice and planned her own vacation around Rowell's ...

THEN there's Kitty Lagareta, who was heading for a client meeting in Hill & Knowlton's conference room when she heard the Olympic theme blaring from within. She entered and found the staff gathered to celebrate her first years as president and CEO, presenting her with an Olympic-looking medal for "putting the company back on the winning track."

Heat brings home gold

THEY'RE reprising that "heat wave" commercial that was so successful at Royal Hawaiian Heritage Jewelry. Once again, if the temperature reaches 93 degrees on Aug. 31, anyone who bought jewelry at a Hawaiian Heritage store between now and Aug. 25 will get a 100 percent refund, whether it's a $9.30 ring or a $93,000 diamond. Last time the promotion was the talk of the town, so owners Jerry & Maggie Breeden decided to wager once again that the heat wave we've been having will break before the end of the month. So while others decry the heat and humidity, some jewelry lovers out there will be praying for it ...

Timmy Leong
WE had weightlifter and physical specimen Tommy Kono reporting in from Atlanta and the Olympics yesterday, so today we're saluting Timmy Leong. At the recent "Ms. Internationally Fit" pageant at the Japanese Cultural Center, a full house applauded Leong, owner (for 43 years) of Timmy's Gym, when he was awarded the first Lifetime Achievement Award for his promotion of not just weightlifting, but health and fitness in general ...

FOR 25 years, D.E. Eastman spent his time in Beverly Hills making the beautiful people even more beautiful. Some of those to whom he administered beauty aids were Cher, Mae West, Ann-Margret, Lanie Kazan and many more. For the past 10 years now he's been "retired" on Maui, but still has beauty and health in mind. And on Sunday at 10 a.m. the Valley Isle folks will celebrate the fifth annual "D.E. Eastman Look Good, Feel Great Family Day of Health and Beauty" all day at Kaahumanu Center in Kahului. It's a fund-raiser for the Maui AIDS Foundation and you can get haircuts, manicures, pedicures, facials, makeup lessons, massage or intuitive readings for only $10 per service ...

Ho-biz

SEEN dining at Bali-by-the-Sea were neophyte movie actor Don Ho ("Joe's Apartment") and keyboard legend Roger Williams and his wife. After dinner, Ho joined Olomana for a few numbers in the Paradise Lounge, bringing back memories of busman's holidays past. Olomana performs at the Hilton Hawaiian Village lounge on Fridays and Saturdays, with Terrence Tom at the piano on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 6 to 8 p.m. ...
