A factory worker who bought a camera to capture the events in his newborn daughter's life becomes obsessed with filming and begins to record things that the authorities would rather not have exposed. The foster son of a miserly factory owner falls in love with his father's young bride, Ju Dou (Gong Li), sparking a slow-burning erotic tension that builds to a fiery end. Director Zhang Yimou's provocative, exquisitely filmed fable of passion and retribution was banned by the Chinese government, and nominated for an Academy Award. Kind Hearts and Coronets
