Happening at the zoo

The Honolulu Zoo will be dressed up with Hawaiian crafts, games and hula Aug. 4 and 11.

Ho'ike 1996 will run from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will also feature Hawaiian games and children's activities.

The 56th annual Na Hula Festival will be part of the festivities with performances from 4 to 7 p.m. on each Sunday.

Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for residents, $1 for children 6 to 12 and free for children 5 and younger and includes viewing of zoo exhibit. After 4 p.m., admission is free for anyone. Information: 971-7174.



Orchid show in Ewa

The Ewa Orchid Society presents its 46th annual Leeward Orchid and Plant Show 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 2 and 3, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 4 at Waipahu High School cafetorium.

In addition to displays of colorful orchids, the event features demonstrations and lectures from plant experts and plant sales.

Let the Bayfest begin

Kaneohe Bay is once again the backdrop for BayFest '96, running 6 p.m. to midnight Aug. 2, noon to midnight Aug. 3 and noon to 10 p.m. Aug. 4 at Marine Corps Base Hawaii.

In addition to water competitions and rides, there will be entertainment, food, carnival rides and exhibits. Acts include hypnotist Tony Angelo, Surf Psycho Sexy, Kapena and Robi Kahakalau.

Admission is $2; children 4 to 12 are $1; Sunday adult admission is $1. Information: 254-7679.



Greek celebration up

The Greek Festival takes place 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 24 and 25 at McCoy Pavilion, Ala Moana Beach Park.

Although there are only about 100 Greek families living on Oahu, this is the 16th annual festival they've hosted.

This year's festival features food, music, dancing, entertainments, crafts and family activities, all with a Greek flavor. There will also be a drawing of airline tickets to Greece for two, courtesy TWA.

A silent auction will benefit the River of Life Mission, and other proceeds will help support Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church.

Hispanic festivities

Rolando Sanchez and Salsa Hawaii Band With Monika V. will perform in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month at the annual "Latin-American Music Festival of Hawaii 1996," beginning at 7 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Ala Moana Hotel.

Also appearing are Second Time Around with Julita De Puerto Rico, Conjunto Tizok, Klaudia, Forte, Los Amigis Ballet Folklorico De Waianae, Flamenco Pacifico, Danilo and the Women's Olympic Volleyball Team of Cuba.

Admission is $20; $15 in advance at ticket outlets such as Harry's Music, Tower Record Kahala, Acqua Restaurant Waikiki and Alma Latina Productions; children under 12 are $10. Information: 955-4811.
