Alexio to fight Japanese foe

Kickboxer Dennis Alexio said yesterday he will fight Japan's Masaaki Miyamoto Aug. 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Blaisdell Arena.

Alexio's record is 62-1 with 57 knockouts. He last fought on May 11 at the Blaisdell when he floored European boxer Stephan Reveillon four times and was declared the winner in the fifth round.



TSUNAMI IN FIRST

After sweeping a three-game home-stand with the last-place California Central Valley Hydra last weekend, the Hawaii Tsunami (9-5) have jumped from fourth to first place in the Western Conference of the United Systems of Independent Soccer League.

If they win the two road games (at third-place Everett, Wash., tomorrow and at sixth-place Yakima, Wash.), the Tsunami will win the conference title and gain the right to host a playoff game.



MOVERS TRIUMPH

The Hawaii Island Movers defeated the North County Waves, 13-8, in an exhibition baseball game at Rainbow stadium last night.



MCLACHLIN, SEKI ADVANCE

At Flagstaff, Ariz., Parker Mc-Lachlin and Jim Seki Jr. of Honolulu qualified yesterday for match play at the U.S. Junior Amateur Golf Championship.



SARDINHA, DERENNE HOT

At Joplin, Mo., Dane Sardinha of Kamehameha had three hits for the USA Red team yesterday and Iolani's Keoni DeRenne had two for USA Blue at the USA Baseball Junior Team Trials.



FIT CHAMPIONSHIPS

The second annual Ms. Internationally Fit Championships will take place at Queen's Beach tomorrow at 9 a.m. and Sunday at the Japanese Cultural Center from 5 to 7 p.m.

Tomorrow's competition will include the obstacle course phase; Saturday is the swimsuit, aerobic routine and sundress phases.



SAILING CANOES

The 10th Na Holo Kai Oahu-to-Kauai outrigger sailing canoe race will be held tomorrow starting at 8:30 a.m. at Haleiwa Beach Park.
