Halekulani's Tam to lead hotel association

The Hawaii Hotel Association plans to improve public and employee education under the leadership of Patricia Tam, general manager at the Halekulani Hotel. She succeeds Mike Paulin, general manager of Marc Resorts.

"I hope to continue our mission statement, which is advocacy and education," Tam said. Education for hotel management and employees is on-going, but Tam hopes to expand that to the public this year.

She has more than 20 years' experience in the hotel industry and joined the Halekulani Corp. in 1983. Tam managed the Waikiki Parc Hotel, Halekulani's sister hotel, from 1987 to 1993, and then became general manager at the Halekulani Hotel.

Tam has served on boards for the Waikiki/Oahu Visitors Association, Waikiki Improvement Association and Hawaii Visitors Bureau.

The Hawaii Hotel Association was founded in 1946.
