The best ukulele players meet
at Kapiolani Park

The Ka'au Crater Boys, Palolo, Moe Keale, Roy Sakuma's 300-piece ukulele band and many others will perform at the Ukulele Festival from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the Kapiolani Park bandstand.

The free event is sponsored by Sheraton Hotels. AT&T will be giving away a KoAloha concert ukulele as part of the festivities. Information: 732-3739.

Also, Fred Fallin, an ukulele soloist, will perform at 11a.m. Saturday at Bishop Museum's Hawaiian Hall.

Admission to the museum is $14.95 for adults, $11.95 for ages 6-17 and seniors ($7.95 and $6.95 kamaaina rate). Information: 847-3511.


KCCN's Birthday Bash will be a major party

The 6th annual KCCN-FM Birthday Bash begins at 5:45 p.m. Saturday at the Waikiki Shell. Top Hawaiian artists, such as Keali'i Reichel, the Ka'au Crater Boys (they're busy this weekend), Robi Kahakalau, Na Leo Pilimehana and Kapena will perform.

Tickets are $20 for pool seats, $18 for reserved and $16 for grass and are available at Connection outlets and at the door. Information: 536-2728


Foster Garden lights up for
Midsummer Night's Gleam

Midsummer Night's Gleam, a festival of lights that has lured people to Foster Botanical Garden for two decades, will be aglow again from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday under a nearly full moon.

The festival focuses on light-related traditions from different countries, cultures and religions. The garden will be softly lighted by a thousand luminaria and other displays.

The event is free; donations will be accepted. Information: 537-1708.
