From 1971 to October 1995, Hoffman worked for KHON-TV in production, writing, public relations, fund raising and marketing. He was director of programming for 15 years. He also worked two years for Plus 2 Enterprises, as radio producer/production coordinator.

Hoffman has been honored for his work as a broadcaster and community work in the prevention of child abuse and neglect. He is a director for the Hawaii Association of Broadcasters, Children's Discovery Center being developed in Kakaako, and Hawaii International Film Festival.
