Sidney L. Halperin of Las Vegas, formerly of Hawaii, died June 27 in Las Vegas. Born in 1908, Halperin, a psychologist, opened Tripler Army Hospital's psychology department in 1947. He also was a consultant to Kaneohe State Hospital, Oahu Prison, Kamehameha School, Straub Clinic, Amfac and Hawaiian Airlines.Halperin left Russia and moved to New York at a young age. An anonymous benefactor put him through school and Halperin graduated at the age of 16. With the help of several sponsors, Halperin continued his education at Ohio State University, where he obtained a doctorate in human genetics and another doctorate in clinical psychology.
