Rowland has plans for isle trade group

The Hawaii chapter of the Chartered Life Underwriters and Chartered Financial Consultants is making some changes.

"We're going to enroll fellow professionals - attorneys, certified public accountants, and trust officers - as adjunct professors for our continuing education courses. They will be part of our faculty," said Richard Rowland, who recently took over as chapter president.

His goals include raising the membership from 190 to more than 200 and also starting a speakers bureau.

Rowland has been an insurance agent at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co. of Milwaukee since 1975.

He earned a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics at Texas A&M University and a master's degree in education at Columbia University in New York City.

Rowland is active in the Libertarian Party and ran for a seat in the U.S. Senate representing Hawaii in 1992 and 1994.
