
MIKE VASCONCELLOS and Jamie Silva tied the knot yesterday morning under the goal post at UH's Cooke Field. "Instead of a ring, Jamie will give me a football and everyone will sign it," Mike said Thursday. In keeping with gridiron mode, the best man was UH head football coach Fred vonAppen. Elroy Chong, former UH quarterback, was in the lineup as one of Mike's attendants. Lisa Iseke was Jamie's maid of honor while vonAppen's wife, Thea, was one of the bride's attendants. Kalani Kinimaka performed the ceremony. Mike said that instead of the "Hawaiian Wedding Song," he wanted the "Notre Dame Fight Song" ...

AS THE Punahou "Shades of Blue" Jazz Band tore through "Flyin' Home" Monday afternoon at Gordon Biersch, Hawaii Public Radio G.M. Anna Kosof took particular enjoyment in the tune made famous by vibes great Lionel Hampton. She wants to bring Hamp, still performing at 88, here for an HPR fund-raiser. She said that he and his Golden Men, a combo of "seasoned" senior citizen musicians, would love to come. She added that Lou Rawls, Marian McPartland and other stars also would come if she can find sponsors. Any sponsors out there? If so, call Kosof at 955-8821.
