Preseason game set in Keo's name

Kahuku and Damien have agreed to play a preseason football game in memory of the late Jason Keo on Aug. 30 at Kahuku's stadium.

First-year head coach Siuaki Livai said details are still being worked out about how the proceeds will be used in Keo's name.

Keo, a former Damien and Kahuku star running back, was killed in a traffic accident on June 23. He led the Interscholastic League of Honolulu in rushing as a junior in a Monarchs' uniform and propelled the Red Raiders through the Oahu Interscholastic Association playoffs and into the Prep Bowl last year.

FLORES TO ATTEND JC

Konawaena High graduate Casey Flores, who set state high school records in the 100 and 200-meter sprints as well as the long jump last spring, has decided to attend West Valley College in Saratoga, Calif., in the fall. He said he will compete in both track and soccer.

VILORIA OUTSTANDING

Wai-pahu High's Brian Viloria became the first Hawaii athlete ever to win the distinction of Outstanding Boxer of the National Junior Olympics last weekend in Marquette, Mich.

The 15-year-old Viloria, an honor roll student at Waipahu, remains the only Hawaii boxer ever to win gold at the annual tournament. He did it last year at 100 pounds and this year again at 106.

The 5-foot-4 fighter cruised through the competition en route to his second gold.
