Lokahi's winning streak at five

The Lokahi Canoe Club won its fifth consecutive Hui Wa'a Association Regatta yesterday by outdistancing its nearest rival by 35 points in the Na Keiki O Ka Mo'i Regatta at Maili Beach.

Lokahi piled up 85 points in the AA Division (16-plus crews). The Ala Wai Canal-based club won nine races and was second in 10 events.

Host Na Keiki O Ka Mo'i, which won six of the 10 races for boys and girls, finished second with 50 points with Koa Kai coming in third with 46 points.

Manu O Ke Kai (29 points) and Kamehameha (18) rounded out the AA Division.

For the third consecutive week, the Kaneohe Canoe Club captured the A Division (4 to 15 crews) championship with 30 points.

And for the third consecutive regatta, Waikiki Yacht Club was runner-up with 25 points. The five point difference was the smallest between the top two A Division clubs in the last three weeks.

The Waikiki Beach Boys finished third with 22 points.

The outrigger canoe paddling season continues Sunday.

The Hui Wa'a Waikiki Beach Boys Regatta starts at 8 a.m. at Waikiki Beach and is that association's only surf race of the season.

The Oahu Hawaiian Canoe Racing Association clubs will be competing in the John Kaupiko Regatta, which begins at 8:30 a.m. at Keehi Lagoon.
