WEDNESDAY

Aina Haina Library: Summer Story Time is 11 a.m. Wednesdays through Aug. 14. Call 373-3888.

Borders: Kids can exchange letters with other kids in Borders Pen Pal clubs around the country. Sign up 11 a.m. at Main Information in the Waikele bookstore. (Next meeting, 11 a.m. July 18.)

The Keiki Summer Writers Club meets 11 a.m. Friday in the Video Room; and children in third through sixth grades may sign up at Main Information for a workshop on how to draw animals 3 p.m. Sunday. Keiki Story Time is 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays in July.



THURSDAY

Independence Day program: Each family receives a treasure map to help Mars the nature cat find his buried treasure, then goes fishing in the stream, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Hawai'i Nature Center. Costs $5. Reserve at 955-0100.



SATURDAY

Family Fishing Day: Practice your fishing skills on tilapia at Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission to the "catch and release" program is free. Bring walking shoes, bug repellent, light rain gear and lunch. Reserve at 233-7323.

Mud Scientists: Young experimenters ages 3 to 6 discover how interesting soil can be, 1 to 3 p.m. at the Hawai'i Nature Center on Maui. Costs $5. Reserve at 244-6500, Maui.

Expression Session: Children ages 5 to 12 exercise their artistic ability while their parents tour the galleries of the Contemporary Museum, 1:30 to 3 p.m. Richard Gerage focuses on color and teaches weaving with cut paper. Costs $10. Reserve at 526-1322.



SUNDAY

Daring Decomposers: Children ages 3 to 5 explore the forest floor, looking for nature's recyclers, 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the Hawai'i Nature Center. Costs $5. Reserve at 955-0100.



LOOKING AHEAD

Pacific Music Institute: Hawaii Youth Symphony Association workshop Aug. 1 through 5 at Pearl City Cultural Center. Henry Miyamura from the Youth Symphony and Craig Young from Punahou will work with students entering grades 8 through 12 who have at least two years of instruction on an instrument. Tuition $95; includes lunch. For an application, call 941-9706. Late fee of $5 will be charged on applications made after July 8.

Kaimuki Library: Hawaiian Humane Society presentation 10:30 a.m. July 9. Call 733-8422.

Salt Lake-Moanalua Library: Neal Milner shares stories and folklore from the Jewish tradition, 10:30 a.m. July 11. Milner is a professor of political science at UH-Manoa and a part-time comedian and performer. Call 831-6831.

Honolulu Zoo programs: Tours by day and by moonlight, art classes and camp-outs through August, including children's Explorers programs and a parents-toddlers program. Call the Education Office at 971-7188.
