Convention center beams
will be treated, official says
QUESTION: I drive by the state's new convention center everyday and have been watching the construction. I notice the beams are rusting. With all that talk about problems of rust at the Aloha Stadium I am wondering if that's the way the beams are supposed to be.
ANSWER: What you see is a temporary condition, said Patty Inaba, spokeswoman for the Hawaii Convention Center Authority. The beams are made of steel which naturally rusts. However, all of the beams eventually will be painted or fireproofed and protected from further rusting.
