Chock, who became president of the group last month, said the association will continue its lobbying efforts, both locally and nationally, and again hold its educational conference in the fall for local bank employees. The annual event normally draws 300 to 400 employees, he said.

The group represents the interests of six local commercial banks and is a chapter of the American Bankers Association.
"I see the next 12 months as filled with challenges and opportunities and at this time we'll just take them one by one," Chock said.
A Hilo High School graduate, Chock has 25 years of banking experience, beginning in 1971 as a management trainee at Hawaii National Bank. When he resigned in October 1993, Chock was senior vice president of the loan division.
He joined Bank of Honolulu in November 1993 where he is responsible for the bank's operational and lending activities.
Chock also has seven years' experience in various positions in Hawaii's food service industry and is known for his knowledge of gourmet restaurants in the Pacific and Asia.
Other new officers for 1996-97 are: first vice president, John K. Tsui, president and chief executive at First Hawaiian Bank; second vice president, Lawrence M. Johnson, chairman and chief executive at Bank of Hawaii; secretary, Joichi Saito, chairman and chief executive at Central Pacific Bank; and treasurer, James M.
