Barnes & Noble: The Cat in the Hat visits the Kahala bookstore 7 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday and Sunday.

Masks of Metamorphosis: Adventurers ages 6 to 9 create a mask that brings new insight into the lives of butterflies and other insects, 1 to 3 p.m. at the Hawai'i Nature Center on Maui. Costs $5. Reserve at 244-6500, Maui.

Honolulu Zoo Summer Explorers: Adventurers ages 5 to 12 learn how the zoo works and the importance of conservation and saving endangered wildlife, July 1 through 5. Other week-long sessions begin every other week through Aug. 26. Tuition $160. For registration form, call 971-7195.

Borders: Keiki Story Time begins at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays in July at the Waikele bookstore. Kids can exchange letters with other kids in the Borders Pen Pal clubs around the country. Sign up at Main Information 11 a.m. July 3.

Family Fishing Day: Practice fishing skills on the tilapia at Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden in Kaneohe, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 6. Admission to the "catch and release" program is free. Reserve at 233-7323.
