WEDNESDAY

Aina Haina Library: "Pacific Passage" puppet show at 11 a.m. Call 373-3888.

Barnes & Noble: The Cat in the Hat visits the Kahala bookstore 7 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday and Sunday.

Also on Sunday, children 4 and older make crafts using computers, 2 to 5 p.m. Computer Safari helps kids make colorful refrigerator magnets and paper airplanes. Call 524-1940.



SATURDAY

Masks of Metamorphosis: Adventurers ages 6 to 9 create a mask that brings new insight into the lives of butterflies and other insects, 1 to 3 p.m. at the Hawai'i Nature Center on Maui. Costs $5. Reserve at 244-6500, Maui.



SUNDAY

Fun Sun Day: Families discover the power of the sun and work on solar art, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Hawai'i Nature Center. Costs $5. Reserve at 955-0100.



LOOKING AHEAD

Junior Lifeguard Program: The city's five-day course on ocean and beach safety and rescue skills begins July 1. Program for youth ages 13 to 17 covers swimming, paddleboarding and the use of lifesaving craft. Donation $25.

Other sessions begin July 8, 15, 22 and 29 and Aug. 5. Courses will be 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday at Kailua Beach Park (395-3994), Ala Moana Beach (924-3313 or 637-1650), Pokai Bay (695-8967) and Ehukai Beach Park (638-8297).

Honolulu Zoo Summer Explorers: Adventurers ages 5 to 12 learn how the zoo works and the importance of conservation and saving endangered wildlife, July 1 through 5. Other week-long sessions begin every other week through Aug. 26. Tuition $160. For registration form, call 971-7195.

Borders: Keiki Story Time begins at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays in July at the Waikele bookstore. Kids can exchange letters with other kids in the Borders Pen Pal clubs around the country. Sign up at Main Information 11 a.m. July 3.

Kardiac Kids at the Farm Fair: E.K. Fernandez invites the Kids and other special children to enjoy a free day at the fair, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 3 at Aloha Stadium. For reservations, call Lisa Rohr at 672-5770 or Mary Leigh Patterson at 488-9594. Adult volunteers welcome.

Independence Day program: Each family receives a treasure map to help Mars the nature cat find his buried treasure, then goes fishing in the stream, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. July 4 at the Hawai'i Nature Center. Costs $5. Reserve at 955-0100.

Family Fishing Day: Practice fishing skills on the tilapia at Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden in Kaneohe, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 6. Admission to the "catch and release" program is free. Reserve at 233-7323.
