Lanikai Canoe Club avenged its only regatta loss this season, easily winning the Waimanalo Regatta at Waimanalo Beach Park yesterday. Lanikai won 17 of 32 events and placed second in five other races en route to scoring 107 points.
Kailua was a distant second in the AA Division (16-plus crews) with 59 points followed by Outrigger's 54 points. Hui Nalu, last week's regatta champion, was fourth with 41.
It was the third win in four weeks for Lanikai, which had not won an Oahu Hawaiian Canoe Racing Association regatta in over 25 years before this season.
In the A Division for clubs with 15 crews or less, Keahiakahoe took home the championship trophy with 15 points. Hui Lanakila was second with 12 while Healani and Leeward Kai shared third place with 11.
At Keehi Lagon, Lokahi continued to rule the Hui Wa'a Association waters by winning its fourth regatta. Lokahi won nine of the 33 events and totaled 81 points.
Koa Kai was runner-up with 58 with Ka Mo'i third at 41.
The A Division title went to Kaneohe with 30 points. Waikiki Yacht Club was second at 21 followed by Windward Kai with 19.
The paddling season continues Sunday with the Hui Wa'a Regatta at Keehi Lagoon. Racing in the Koa Kai-sponsored race begins at 8 a.m.
The next OHCRA event is the Outrigger Canoe Club Macfarlane Regatta at Waikiki Beach on July 4.
The only surf race of the season begins at 8:30 a.m.
